What to Wear in Vis — The Complete PP Wardrobe

Vis — ancient Issa, Komiža, the Blue Cave, Croatian vineyards — the PP linen wardrobe.

Vis is the most remote of the inhabited Dalmatian islands — the furthest from the mainland, the last to open to foreign visitors (it was a Yugoslav military base until 1989), and consequently the most preserved and the most authentic. The filming location for parts of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again has given it a specific international profile that has accelerated its growth as a luxury destination without yet compromising the genuine character that makes it so compelling.

For Vis Town. The main settlement on the eastern side of the island — the ancient Greek and Roman ruins (Vis is ancient Issa, the oldest Greek settlement on the Adriatic coast), the Bâttle of Vis memorial, the Austrian fortifications, the excellent wine bars and restaurants. A PP linen shirt in white or a warm natural with linen trousers and leather shoes. The ancient port context rewards natural fabric throughout.

For Komiža. The fishing village on the western coast — the Venetian tower, the fishing boats, the harbour restaurants. More relaxed than Vis Town in its social register; a PP linen shirt in white or a warm natural with linen shorts and leather sandals.

For the Blue Cave at Biševo. The boat trip from Komiža to the island of Biševo — the Blue Cave, where sunlight refracts through an underwater opening to illuminate the cave interior in an intense electric blue. Natural swim shorts and a white PP linen shirt for the boat trip.

For the vineyards. Vis produces some of the finest wines in Croatia — the Plavac Mali and Vugava grapes that have been cultivated here since Greek antiquity. The wine estates and the winemakers of Vis are a specific and compelling draw. A PP linen shirt in a warm earth tone with linen trousers and leather shoes.
