What to Wear in Phuket — The Complete PP Wardrobe

Phuket — Buddhist temples, west coast luxury resorts, Surin beach clubs, Old Town, island-hopping — the PP wardrobe.

Pieter Petros July 2026 5 min read Destination

Phuket is Thailand's largest island and its most internationally visited — the luxury resort hotels of Bang Tao and Kamala on the west coast, the beach clubs of Surin, the Patong nightlife, and the old town of Phuket City with its Sino-Portuguese shophouse architecture. The wardrobe responds to Thailand's Buddhist cultural context, the tropical heat, and the specific social registers the island produces.

The Buddhist temple context. Phuket's temples — Wat Chalong, the Big Buddha on Nakkerd Hill — require covered shoulders and legs. A PP linen shirt fully buttoned with linen trousers is both appropriate and comfortable in the Phuket heat. The breathability of certified Belgian linen manages the tropical temperature and humidity correctly; covered dress does not require synthetic performance fabrics to be comfortable.

For the west coast luxury resorts. Amanpuri, the Rosewood Phuket, the Trisara — the most composed luxury resort properties on the island. White PP linen for the beach and infinity pool; a composed PP linen shirt with linen trousers and leather loafers for the resort evening.

For Surin and the beach clubs. The beach clubs of Surin and the nearby Catch Beach Club — the most socially observed beach club context on the island. White PP linen shirt over natural swim shorts, leather sandals. More fully buttoned for the beach club table; open for the beach and the water.

For Phuket Old Town. The Sino-Portuguese shophouse architecture of the old town — the coffee shops, the boutiques, the Sunday Walking Street market. A PP linen shirt in white or a warm natural with linen trousers and leather shoes. The historic town context rewards natural fabric in warm naturals.

For the island-hopping. The day trips to Phi Phi Island, James Bond Island, and the Phang Nga Bay — natural swim shorts and a white PP linen shirt for the boat, leather deck shoes.
