What to Wear in Phuket — The PP Wardrobe

On Amanpuri, the old town, Phang Nga Bay, and the beach clubs — the natural linen wardrobe for Phuket's heat and humidity.

Phuket has two distinct faces. The first is the luxury resort face — the Six Senses, the Amanpuri, the Trisara, the private villas along Kamala and Surin beach — where the standard is international and the expectation is high. The second is the broader island face — the old town, the beach clubs of Kata and Karon, the day trips to Phang Nga Bay — which has its own more relaxed but still considered register.

The climate of Phuket is tropical: temperatures consistently above 30 degrees, with significant humidity and periodic heavy rain depending on the season. The combination of heat and humidity makes this one of the most demanding environments for a wardrobe. Fabric that traps moisture becomes uncomfortable very quickly; fabric that manages moisture — releasing it as vapour rather than holding it against the skin — performs correctly across the full day.

“Linen feels particularly appropriate to Phuket’s finest environments — the natural fabric suits both the climate and the visual register.”

— Pieter Petros, founder

For the luxury resort context: the pool at the Amanpuri, the beach at Surin, the lunch at a hilltop restaurant above the Andaman Sea — a PP linen shirt in white or a warm natural with linen shorts is the combination that reads correctly at Phuket's finest venues. Linen feels particularly appropriate to this environment — the natural fabric suits both the climate and the visual register of Phuket's finest venues.

For the old town of Phuket: the Sino-Portuguese architecture, the small restaurants and coffee houses, the Sunday walking street — this is Phuket's most culturally specific context, and it rewards considered dress. A linen shirt in a composed colourway with linen trousers and leather sandals carries correctly here from the morning through the afternoon.

For the boat trips and the islands: the day trip to the Phi Phi islands, the James Bond island in Phang Nga Bay, the snorkelling off the west coast — a PP linen shirt over swim shorts is the combination for the boat and the island landing, managing the heat and the occasional sea spray without difficulty.
