What to Wear in Monaco — The PP Wardrobe

On the Casino, Port Hercule, and the Croisette — the PP linen wardrobe for the principality that sets the highest standard on the French Riviera.

Monaco operates at a standard unlike any other destination on the French Riviera — the principality has a density of wealth, taste, and social observation that is unique in Europe. The Casino de Monte-Carlo, the Grand Prix circuit, the Port Hercule yacht harbour, the Hôtel de Paris, the Métropole — every venue in Monaco has a standard that is visible and enforced, and the wardrobe that reads correctly here is one that has been assembled with that standard in mind.

The summer heat in Monaco is moderate by Riviera standards — the principality is built into a cliff face above the sea, and the Mediterranean breeze moderates the temperature. But the formality of the occasion register is higher than the heat requires, which means the wardrobe needs to carry more visual weight than a pure beach destination.

“Monaco operates at a standard unlike any other destination. The wardrobe that reads correctly here has been assembled with that standard in mind — not as an afterthought.”

— Pieter Petros, founder

For the Casino and the Hôtel de Paris terrace: the standard is formal. A PP linen suit in deep navy, or a white PP linen shirt tucked with well-cut linen trousers and leather Oxford shoes, reads correctly in the Casino's smart-casual context and at the terrace of the Hôtel de Paris. These are among the most observed public spaces in Europe; the garment that reads correctly here is one that has considered them.

For Port Hercule and the yacht harbour: the quayside of Port Hercule during the Grand Prix or the Monaco Yacht Show is a context where the superyacht wardrobe applies at its most concentrated. Navy PP linen, linen trousers, leather loafers.

For the daytime in Monte-Carlo: the shops along Avenue Princess Grace, the gardens of the Exotic Garden, the Oceanographic Museum — the daytime in Monaco rewards natural linen in a composed colourway rather than the casualness of shorts.

The Casino dress code: smart casual is required during the day; the evening standard at the Casino de Monte-Carlo is stricter — jacket required for men, which the PP linen blazer satisfies correctly. The Monaco Yacht Show in September is one of the great social occasions of the superyacht calendar — navy PP linen with linen trousers is the correct wardrobe for the show quayside.
