What to Wear in Gozo — The Quieter Side of Malta
Gozo — the Citadella, the diving, the Gozitan farmhouse — the quieter and more local side of Malta.
Gozo is Malta's smaller sister island — more rural, more agricultural, slower in tempo, and for many visitors more personally compelling than the busier main island. The Citadella fortress above Victoria, the prehistoric temples of Ġgantija, the diving sites of Dwejra, and the rolling green countryside that distinguishes Gozo from Malta's more arid landscape make it a destination worth addressing separately from the main Malta article.
The Gozo character. Gozo has a local character that the more touristic Malta does not always preserve — the family-run farmhouses converted to luxury rental properties (the famous Gozitan farmhouses), the village feasts that take place throughout the summer, the local market in Victoria. The wardrobe that belongs in Gozo is natural, considered, and appropriate for both the cultural visit and the outdoor leisure context.

— Pieter Petros, founderFor Victoria and the Citadella. The fortified citadel above Gozo's capital — the Cathedral, the rampart walks, the views across the island. A PP linen shirt in white or a warm natural with linen trousers and leather shoes. The historic fortification context rewards natural fabric in the natural palette.
For the diving. Gozo's diving is among the finest in the Mediterranean — the Azure Window site at Dwejra (the rock arch collapsed in 2017 but the underwater cave system remains extraordinary), the Inland Sea, the Blue Hole. Natural swim shorts and a white PP linen shirt for the boat and the shore entries, leather sandals.
For the Gozitan farmhouse. The converted farmhouse or palazzo rental is the most authentic way to experience Gozo — the limestone courtyard, the local stone, the morning light through the shuttered windows. A PP linen shirt in a warm natural or earth tone, linen trousers or shorts, leather sandals. The natural fabric in the natural architecture.
