What to Wear in Rio de Janeiro — The PP Wardrobe

On Ipanema, Santa Teresa, Leblon, and the seasonal humidity — the natural linen wardrobe for South America’s most visually observed city.

Rio de Janeiro has a wardrobe standard unlike any other city in South America. The southern summer — December through March — brings the highest temperatures and significant humidity; April through October is drier and more comfortable, with the city at its most socially active. Belgian linen manages both seasons correctly, with lighter colourways for the humid summer and deeper tones for the drier months. The combination of extraordinary natural beauty — the mountains, the beaches, the Tijuca forest — and an intensely social outdoor culture creates a context where personal appearance is considered and visible in a way that is specific to the city. The beach at Ipanema, the bars of Santa Teresa, the fine dining restaurants of the Leblon neighbourhood — these are occasions that reward a wardrobe that has thought about the setting.

The climate is tropical and warm year-round — temperatures between 25 and 35 degrees, with high humidity particularly in the southern summer (December to March). Natural linen's moisture management is particularly relevant in Rio's humidity — the fabric keeps the wearer drier through the heat and the social occasions of a full Rio day.

“Rio notices how you dress. The city’s outdoor culture makes appearance visible in a way that is specific to it. Natural linen in a considered colourway reads correctly here.”

For Ipanema and Leblon: the beaches and the neighbourhood streets of Rio's most considered areas have a visual standard that is set by the local population and matched by the international visitors who come here with intention. A PP linen shirt in white or oyster over swim shorts for the beach; the same shirt buttoned with linen trousers for the afternoon in the neighbourhood.

For Santa Teresa: the bohemian hillside neighbourhood above the city, with its restaurants, art galleries, and tram rides, has a creative and considered register. Earth tones and warm naturals in linen read correctly here.

For the evening in Leblon: the restaurants along Rua Dias Ferreira, the bars of Ipanema, the sunset drinks at a hillside vantage point — navy PP linen with linen trousers and leather loafers carries the Rio evening correctly.
