What to Wear in Miami — The PP Wardrobe

On Miami's heat, South Beach, the Design District, and the Coconut Grove marina — the Belgian linen wardrobe for a city that rewards intention.

Miami operates at a specific intersection of heat, glamour, and informality. The South Beach boardwalk, the Design District, the yacht marina at Coconut Grove, dinner at Zuma or Cipriani Downtown — each has its own register, and what they share is a tolerance for individual expression that most European resort destinations do not. Miami is not Portofino. The standard is high but the rules are fewer.

The heat is the constant. Miami in summer reaches 35 degrees Celsius with high humidity — a combination more testing than the dry heat of the Gulf or the moderate temperatures of the Mediterranean coast. Fabric that traps moisture becomes uncomfortable within an hour in this climate. Belgian linen, which manages moisture through the natural properties of the flax fibre, is one of the few fabrics that performs correctly through a full Miami day.

“Miami rewards those who dress with intention without overdressing. Belgian linen in the right colourway is exactly that.”

— Pieter Petros, founder

For South Beach and the beachfront: a PP linen shirt in white or a warm natural over swim shorts or linen shorts. Open at the collar, easy. The beach clubs along Collins Avenue and Ocean Drive have a visual standard set by people who dress well and conspicuously. Natural linen reads correctly in this context without competing with the louder elements of the setting.

For the Design District and Wynne: Miami's cultural and creative neighbourhood has a different register — more considered, slightly more interior. A PP linen shirt in oyster or a composed earth tone with linen trousers and leather loafers carries correctly for gallery openings, restaurant dinners, and the evening social circuit in this part of the city.

For Coconut Grove and the marina: the yacht context is the context PP was built for. A linen shirt in navy or white, worn easily, moving between the deck and the dock and the waterfront restaurant without adjustment.

Miami rewards those who dress with intention without overdressing. Belgian linen in the right colourway is exactly that.
