Belgian Linen on a Greek Island

On Spetses, the light in late summer, and a fabric that was made for exactly this.

Spetses has a particular quality of morning. The harbour is quiet before nine. The light arrives slowly, low and golden across the water, and the day opens without announcement. There are no cars — only horses, bicycles, and the sound of the sea adjusting itself against the stone.

The founder of Pieter Petros spent seventeen summers here. It is where the brand began — not as a business plan, but as a conviction about how clothes should feel in a place like this. Natural. Unhurried. In proportion with the setting.

Belgian linen was the answer before the question was fully formed.

The fabric behaves differently on a Greek island than it does in a city. The air is salt and pine. The temperature is serious but the pace is not. A linen shirt worn from breakfast through a morning swim, through lunch on a terrace, into the long afternoon — it holds. It does not wilt or cling. It settles into the body and moves with the day rather than against it.

"Spetses taught me that the finest things are always in harmony with the place they come from."

— Pieter Petros, founder

One&Only Aesthesis carries the PP collection now — a resort on the Athenian Riviera where sea and pine forest meet in a way specific to this part of the world. One&Only Kéa Island does the same, further into the Aegean. These are addresses that understand, as the brand does, that the quality of a place and the quality of what you wear in it are not unrelated.

The women's linen sets were designed with this landscape in mind. The Dubarry — warm, vivid — reads differently against the blue of the Aegean than anywhere else. The cooler tones, the whites and the ivories, carry a particular ease in the late afternoon when the light begins to change and the day moves toward evening without quite arriving there.

Summer in linen is not a seasonal trend. It is a particular understanding of what the body needs when the heat is present and the setting is beautiful and the only obligation is to be present in it. Belgian linen — certified by origin, cut by hand, softening with every wash — was made for exactly this kind of day.

The island is still there. The fabric still carries it.

Some things were always meant to meet.
