What to Wear in Skyros — The Complete PP Wardrobe

Skyros — the Chora, the Skyrian horse, Rupert Brooke, southern beaches — the PP linen wardrobe.

Pieter Petros July 2026 5 min read Destination

Skyros is the largest and most southerly of the Sporades islands — separated from the main cluster of Skiathos, Skopelos, and Alonissos, it has developed an entirely different character from its neighbours. The island is known for the Skyrian horse (one of the smallest and most ancient horse breeds in Europe), the tradition of Skyrian furniture and woodcarving that continues in the island's crafts community, and the Rupert Brooke connection — the poet is buried in an olive grove in the south of the island, having died on a hospital ship in the Aegean in 1915. It is not a resort destination in the conventional sense; it rewards the visitor who seeks genuine island character over beach club culture.

For Skyros Town (the Chora). One of the finest Cycladic-style hilltop towns in the northern Aegean — white cubic buildings rising sharply above the port, the Venetian Castro at the top, the views across the island. A PP linen shirt in white or a warm natural with linen trousers and leather shoes. The whitewashed architecture rewards natural fabric in white and natural colourways.

“Skyros rewards the visitor who seeks genuine island character. The Skyrian horse — one of the smallest and most ancient breeds in Europe — is one of the most specific and memorable experiences any Greek island produces.”

— Pieter Petros, founder

For Magazia and Molos. The beach resort area below the Chora — the main beach, the tavernas. White PP linen over natural swim shorts, leather sandals.

For the south. The Rupert Brooke memorial and the isolated beaches of the southern peninsula — Atsitsa, Pefkos. The most remote and naturally beautiful part of the island, accessible by vehicle or boat. A PP linen shirt in a warm natural or earth tone with natural swim shorts and leather sandals.

The Skyrian horse. The Skyrian horse — pony-sized, dark, with a specific ancient Mediterranean character — is bred and visible at small farms around the island. The encounter with this rare breed is one of Skyros's most specific and memorable experiences.
