What to Wear in Thailand for Men — The Complete PP Wardrobe

What Thailand asks of men — beach resorts, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, temples, humidity — and the natural PP linen wardrobe for each context.

Thailand's wardrobe requirements for men cover an extraordinary range — from the beach clubs of Koh Samui and the luxury resorts of Phuket to the temple districts of Chiang Mai and Bangkok, from the private villa pools of Koh Yao Noi to the rooftop bars of the capital. The natural linen wardrobe handles all of these correctly while managing the consistent tropical heat and humidity that Thailand produces year-round.

The climate. Thailand is tropical — temperatures consistently between 28 and 36 degrees, with humidity that makes synthetic fabric uncomfortable for sustained outdoor wear. The rainy season (June to October in most regions) adds afternoon downpours that make quick-drying, non-clinging natural fabric more relevant than ever. Belgian linen's moisture management properties are particularly relevant in Thailand's humidity — the fabric keeps the skin drier than synthetic alternatives in sustained tropical conditions.

“Thailand’s combination of heat, humidity, temple visits, beach clubs, and rooftop bars asks for a wardrobe that manages all of them with the same natural fabric.”

For the beach resorts — Phuket, Koh Samui, Krabi. The luxury beach clubs and resort hotels of Thailand's most visited islands have a high visual standard. A PP linen shirt in white or oyster over natural swim shorts or linen shorts — the beach club combination that is visually appropriate in these contexts. For the evening at a beachside restaurant: navy PP linen with linen trousers and leather sandals.

For Bangkok. The capital's luxury hotel scene — Mandarin Oriental, Capella, Rosewood — and its restaurant and rooftop bar culture reward composed dress. A PP linen shirt in white tucked with linen trousers and leather shoes carries the Bangkok evening correctly. The cultural sites — the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, the temples — require covered shoulders and covered legs. Long-sleeved PP linen with linen trousers is both respectful and comfortable in the Bangkok heat.

For Chiang Mai and the north. The night markets, the temple visits, the hill tribe villages — earth tones and warm naturals in linen belong in the northern Thai landscape. The cooler altitude of Chiang Mai (particularly in the cool season, November to February) makes linen a comfortable layering piece.
