What to Wear in Sri Lanka — The PP Wardrobe

On Galle, the hill country, the ancient sites, and the east coast — the PP linen wardrobe across Sri Lanka’s varied climate and occasions.

Sri Lanka is a destination of extraordinary variety — the hill country around Kandy and Ella, the ancient ruins of Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa, the surf coast of the south, the luxury boutique properties along the southern and east coasts — and the climate varies as dramatically as the landscape. The western and southern coasts are warm and humid; the hill country is cooler; the east coast has its own seasonal pattern. Across all of these, natural linen is the fabric that manages the conditions rather than fighting them.

The southern coast — Galle, Tangalle, Mirissa: the colonial fort of Galle, the surf beaches of the south, the boutique hotels around Tangalle — this is Sri Lanka's most luxury-facing coastline. The warmth and humidity here make linen the correct fabric choice throughout the day. A PP linen shirt in white or oyster with linen shorts carries from the morning beach to the Galle Fort restaurant to the sunset drinks on a villa terrace without adjustment.

“From the Galle Fort to the tea plantation hills to the east coast reef — one linen wardrobe, correctly chosen, carries every context Sri Lanka produces.”

— Pieter Petros, founder

The hill country — Kandy, Ella, Nuwara Eliya: the tea plantations, the train journey through the hills, the cooler temperatures of the interior — linen in a midweight performs correctly here where a lightweight fabric might feel insufficient in the evenings. A PP linen shirt in a deeper colourway — navy, warm brown — with linen trousers reads correctly in Kandy's cultural setting and in the hill country hotels.

The ancient sites — Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla: these are outdoor visits in significant heat, often with considerable walking. Natural linen in a light colourway manages the heat and sun exposure correctly.

The east coast — Arugam Bay, Pasikudah: Sri Lanka's east coast, at its best between April and September, has a more relaxed register. White linen, linen shorts, leather sandals.
