What to Wear on Palm Jumeirah

Trunk, fronds and crescent: dressing for an island built for leisure.

Pieter Petros October 2026 5 min read Dubai

October is when the Palm comes back outdoors. Through the summer its life is conducted behind glass; from now until April the beach clubs, terraces and promenades are in use from breakfast until late. Dress here follows the season as much as the place, and for anyone weighing what to wear on Palm Jumeirah the answer in these months is linen: cool enough for a midday that still reaches the mid-thirties in October, and composed enough for an island where lunch can run on into the evening without anyone going home to change.

The geography is worth understanding, because distances are longer than the map implies. The trunk carries the apartments, Nakheel Mall and the monorail that runs out to the crescent. The fronds are residential and private. The crescent, an eleven-kilometre breakwater, holds most of the resort hotels, with Atlantis at its apex. And along the western edge of the trunk runs Palm West Beach, a walkable promenade of beach clubs and restaurants facing the Dubai Marina skyline and the sunset. A day usually belongs to one of these, and is dressed for accordingly.

“The season in Dubai is short and generous. Linen lets you spend all of it outside.”

PP has two addresses on the island. The collection is presented at Surf Club Dubai, on Palm West Beach, and at Sofitel The Palm Beach Resort, on the eastern crescent, both listed on the house's Boutiques and Resorts page. The garments, many of them in certified Belgian linen, are handmade in the Dubai atelier and in Belgium, so for many of the shirts worn on these terraces the journey from workroom to beach is a short one. Guests staying elsewhere on the Palm will find the same collection online.

The beach club day has a clear order. PP natural swim shorts are for the pool and the sea; Sapphire Blue and Roosewood Pink suit the bright water, Oatmeal and Oyster the quieter mood. Swimwear in Dubai is expected to stay at the beach and the pool, so a shirt is worn to the restaurant, the lobby and the promenade. The Vibes Linen Shirt in Orchid, a Belgian linen colourway, or the Cuba Linen Shirt in Lemon Yellow carries the easy spirit of the place. For a later table, the swim shorts give way to PP linen shorts or trousers.

For her, the Amelia linen dress shirt is the piece that moves most naturally from sunbed to table: over swimwear at noon, buttoned and belted by four. Dubarry and Oyster hold their own in strong light, and Hibiscus and Coral Orange are the colourways for those who want the sunset matched. The ladies linen set in Sky Blue or Mint Green suits a morning on the promenade, and the PP linen blouse in Orchid works with long trousers of her choosing for a hotel lunch on the crescent.

The detail visitors most often misjudge is the indoor temperature. Every lobby, mall, taxi and monorail carriage on the Palm is cooled hard, and the step from a thirty-four-degree terrace into a twenty-one-degree restaurant is a daily event. Linen handles the change better than it is given credit for. A long sleeve, worn rolled outside and let down inside, is the whole method. The Bliss Linen Shirt in Dark Blue or Vanille is the long-sleeved shirt for this, with enough presence for the dining rooms where shorts and sandals are not expected after dark.

Evening dress on the Palm is smart rather than formal. Many of the island's restaurants ask for long trousers and closed shoes for men at dinner, and policies differ from venue to venue, so a glance at the booking confirmation is sensible. PP Casual Linen Trousers in Black or Vanille, or PP Trousers 100% Linen in White, with the Monte-Carlo Male shirt in Oyster and its walnut buttons, meet the most particular of them. Linen at dinner in Dubai is no concession. In this city, in this season, it is simply what the climate recommends.

Humidity deserves a word. In October and again in April the coast can be damp at night, more so on the crescent, which sits furthest out to sea. From December to February the air is dry, the days settle in the mid-twenties and evenings on the water call for a layer. The same shirts serve throughout; only the sleeve length and the number of layers change, as our piece on Dubai in winter sets out.

A final practical point: the Palm is not a place for walking between its parts. The monorail links the trunk to Atlantis, and everything else is a car journey. Dress, then, for the place the day is going to be spent, and for its air conditioning. By the time the light goes behind the Marina towers at Palm West Beach, the shirt chosen that morning is still the right one.
