What to Wear at Lake Maggiore — The Complete PP Wardrobe

Lake Maggiore is the most naturally majestic of the Italian lakes — the longest lake in Italy, extending from the Piedmont foothills into the Swiss canton of Ticino, with the Borromean Islands as its defining landmark. Lake Maggiore is quieter and more naturally grand than Lake Como; its social register is more restrained.

For the Grand Hotel Majestic Verbania. The Edwardian hotel on the western shore — the most historically celebrated hotel on Lake Maggiore. White PP linen for the hotel lake terrace and the private beach; a navy PP linen shirt with linen trousers and leather shoes for the hotel restaurant evening.

For the Borromean Islands. The three islands in the Stresa bay — Isola Bella (the Palazzo Borromeo and the terraced gardens), Isola Madre (the botanical garden), Isola dei Pescatori (the fishing village). The ferry circuit between the islands is the defining Lake Maggiore experience. A PP linen shirt in white or a warm natural with linen trousers and leather shoes for the palace and garden visits.

For Stresa. The most visited town on Lake Maggiore — the lakefront promenade, the Grand Hotel des Îles Borromées opposite the islands. A PP linen shirt in white or a composed natural with linen trousers and leather shoes for the Stresa morning.

For the northern lake and the Swiss Ticino shore. The most alpine of the lake landscapes — the Locarno connection, the Cannobio village. A PP linen shirt in a warm natural with linen trousers and leather shoes.
