What to Wear in Jeddah — The Complete PP Wardrobe

Jeddah — Al-Balad UNESCO district, Corniche luxury hotels, cultural dress context — the PP linen wardrobe.

Pieter Petros July 2026 5 min read Destination

Jeddah is Saudi Arabia's second city and its most cosmopolitan — the gateway to Mecca and Medina, the historic Al-Balad district (a UNESCO World Heritage Site of coral-stone merchant houses), the most developed luxury hotel and restaurant scene in the Kingdom, and the rapidly growing Red Sea resort development that is positioning the Jeddah coastline as a significant luxury destination. The wardrobe responds to the specific cultural context of Saudi Arabia and the distinct contexts the city produces.

The cultural dress context. Saudi Arabia has significantly relaxed its public dress requirements for foreign visitors in recent years, but modest dress remains appropriate outside the resort hotel grounds — covered shoulders and legs in public areas, markets, and cultural sites. A PP linen shirt fully buttoned with linen trousers is both culturally appropriate and comfortable in the Jeddah climate (above 35 degrees from May through October; warm throughout the year). The breathability of certified Belgian linen manages the Arabian heat correctly.

“The breathability of certified Belgian linen manages the Arabian heat correctly. Covered dress in Jeddah does not require synthetic performance fabrics to be comfortable — natural linen breathes where synthetic does not.”

— Pieter Petros, founder

For Al-Balad — the historic district. The UNESCO-listed old city of Jeddah — the coral-stone merchant houses with their intricately carved wooden mashrabiya windows, the traditional souqs, the historic mosques. A PP linen shirt in a warm earth tone or natural with linen trousers and leather shoes. The ochre and warm tones of the Al-Balad architecture reward natural fabric in warm natural colourways.

For the Corniche and the luxury hotels. The Jeddah Corniche — the 30-kilometre waterfront promenade — and the luxury resort hotels of the northern Corniche. White PP linen for the beach and pool within the hotel grounds; a navy PP linen shirt with linen trousers for the hotel restaurant and the Corniche evening.

For the growing Red Sea resort context. The luxury resort developments north of Jeddah — the growing luxury hotel cluster on the Red Sea coast. White PP linen for the beach and pool; a composed PP linen combination for the resort evening.
