The PP Sky Blue Linen Guide — For Him and for Her
A pale, clear blue for him and for her, and the neutrals it sits most easily beside.
Sky Blue is one of the colourways that runs right through the Pieter Petros collection, across men's shirts, a women's blouse, two sets and a pair of shorts. That makes it unusually useful: a man and a woman travelling together can wear it without matching, a set can be broken up and worn with other pieces, and a single shirt can carry a wardrobe built mostly of white and oatmeal. This guide brings the main Sky Blue garments of the current collection together in one place.
For men, there are two linen shirts. The Bliss Linen Shirt in Sky Blue is long-sleeved and one of six Bliss colourways; it is natural linen, and it is the more formal of the two, at home at an evening with trousers or a day in the city. Our guide to the Bliss shirt covers its cut and the other colourways. The Laos Short Sleeve Linen Shirt in Sky Blue is the daytime piece, worn open over swim shorts at a beach club or buttoned with linen shorts for lunch, and the Laos Short Sleeve guide sets it beside the eleven other colourways of that shirt.
“Pale blue is the colour of the hour before noon. Nothing needs to be added to it.”
— Pieter Petros, founderThe PP Natural Set in Sky Blue pairs a shirt and shorts in the same linen, part of the natural sets. Worn together, it is a complete outfit for a resort day; worn apart, the shirt goes with the PP Trousers 100% Linen in White for dinner, and the shorts go with a Laos Short Sleeve Linen Shirt in White or Vanille. The PP linen shorts also come in Sky Blue, on their own, with walnut buttons, for those who prefer to build the pairing themselves.
For women, the PP linen blouse in Sky Blue is cut to the hip, with long sleeves, a curved hem and seashell buttons. It is one of the four blouse colourways currently on the women's page, alongside Lemon, Orchid and Pink, and it is natural linen. It works open over a swimsuit, tucked into long trousers for a city lunch, or under a light jacket in the evening; each is described in the PP linen blouse guide. The Linen Ladies Set in Sky Blue combines a blouse with matching shorts and is the simplest choice for a beach holiday.
Sky Blue sits among several blues in the collection, and they are different colourways: Light Blue is offered separately in the Laos Short Sleeve and the Linen Ladies Set; Blue appears in the Laos Linen Shirt, the Cuba, the Male Linen Shirt, the HER Laos and the Amelia linen dress shirt; Dark Blue in the Bliss, the Laos Long Sleeve and the Vibes; and Sapphire Blue in the trousers, the tennis shorts and the swim shorts. Product photographs taken in daylight are the most reliable way to compare them.
Sky Blue is a quiet colour, and it sits most easily with other quiet colours. With White, it reads clean and Mediterranean; with Oatmeal or Vanille, it softens; with Black or Sapphire Blue trousers, it becomes an evening shirt. It is a colour that suits pale stone and white walls, which is why it looks at home on a Cycladic terrace, on a Riviera quay or in the shade of a Gulf courtyard in winter. Couples who want to dress in step without looking matched can share it across a man's shirt and a woman's blouse, an idea taken further in linen for couples.
The PP Cardholder also comes in Sky Blue, which completes a collection in one colour for anyone who wants it. Most will not; the colour is at its strongest as one note among neutrals, worn the way the sky is seen above a white wall.
