How to Care for a PP Sauna Hat — Keeping Wool Felt in Perfect Condition

How to care for a PP sauna hat — drying after each session, hand washing, storage, and keeping natural wool felt in perfect condition.

A PP sauna hat is made from 100% natural wool felt. Cared for correctly, it will hold its shape and function across years of regular use. The care requirements are minimal — wool felt is a robust material in the context it was designed for — but a few specific habits extend the life of the hat significantly.

After each session: hang the hat to dry fully before storing. The loop handle at the top of the PP sauna hat is designed for this purpose — hang it in a well-ventilated space and allow the wool felt to dry completely. A hat stored while still damp from steam and perspiration will retain moisture that can, over time, affect the structure of the felt and contribute to odour. Complete drying between sessions is the single most important care habit.

Washing: occasional gentle hand washing is sufficient. Fill a basin with cool water and a small amount of mild wool-safe soap. Submerge the hat and press gently — do not wring, rub, or agitate — then rinse thoroughly with cool water. Press excess water out gently with a clean towel. Reshape the hat by hand while still damp and hang to dry naturally away from direct heat or sunlight.

Do not machine wash. Machine washing subjects wool felt to mechanical agitation and heat that can cause the fibres to felt further, shrink, or lose their structured form. The PP sauna hat is designed for hand washing only.

Do not tumble dry or place near direct heat. Wool felt dried at high temperature can shrink and lose its shape permanently. Always air dry at room temperature.

Brushing: a soft bristle brush can be used to restore the surface of the wool felt after extended use. Brush gently in one direction to lift and align the fibres. This is an optional step for those who want to maintain the hat's surface appearance over time.

Storage: store the hat in a dry, ventilated space out of direct sunlight. A hook or open shelf is preferable to a sealed bag, which can trap residual moisture and affect the wool over time.
