What to Wear in Lagos, Nigeria — The Complete PP Wardrobe

Lagos Nigeria — Victoria Island luxury, Tarkwa Bay beach, Rosebank restaurant culture.

Pieter Petros August 2026 5 min read Destination

Lagos is the most dynamic city in Africa — a metropolis of over twenty million people that is simultaneously the continent's largest economy, its most energetic creative culture, and its most rapidly developing luxury market. The Victoria Island and Ikoyi districts — Lagos's luxury residential and business quarters — have developed a restaurant, hotel, and lifestyle culture that makes Lagos a compelling destination for the international luxury traveller, alongside being the home of Nigeria's most significant business community.

The Victoria Island and Ikoyi context. The luxury hotels of Victoria Island — the Eko Hotels and the growing number of international properties in the area. The restaurants and rooftop bars of the Eko Atlantic development. A navy PP linen shirt with linen trousers and leather shoes for the Victoria Island business meeting and the evening restaurant. The Lagos business meeting is formal in its expectations despite the extreme heat.

“Lagos is the most dynamic city in Africa — its Victoria Island and Ikoyi luxury quarters have developed a restaurant and lifestyle culture that makes Lagos a compelling destination. Certified Belgian linen manages the tropical coastal humidity more effectively than any synthetic alternative.”

The heat. Lagos is tropical year-round — consistently above 28 degrees, with significant humidity. The humidity of the Lagos coastal climate is higher than Dubai or the Gulf; the breathability of certified Belgian linen manages the Lagos heat more effectively than any synthetic alternative, but the humidity means perspiration management is more demanding here than in dry heat contexts.

For the Tarkwa Bay beach. The boat-access beach across the Lagos harbour — the only easily accessible beach from central Lagos. Natural swim shorts and a white PP linen shirt for the boat crossing and the beach; leather sandals.

The cultural context. Lagos has no specific public modesty requirements — the dress code for the city's business and social occasions is more similar to a Western European capital than to the Gulf. Composed natural linen is appropriate in both business and social contexts.
