Sint Maarten and Saint-Martin is a single island divided between the Dutch south and the French north — the only island in the world shared between two different European kingdoms. This division gives the island two distinct characters: the Dutch side with its casino culture, the Maho Beach plane-spotting, and the resort strip; the French side with the quieter beaches of Friar's Bay and Grand Case, the best restaurant scene in the northeastern Caribbean, and the French village atmosphere of Marigot.
