What to Wear to a Regatta — The PP Natural Fabric Guide

What to wear to a regatta — on the spectator boat, at the yacht club, the prize-giving evening — the PP linen wardrobe.

The regatta — from the Cowes Week on the Isle of Wight to the Giraglia Rolex Cup in the Mediterranean to the Rolex Sydney Hobart — is a sailing occasion with a specific and well-established social wardrobe culture. The wardrobe spans the race course (watching from the water on a spectator boat) and the shore (the yacht club, the social programme, the evening prize-giving) — two distinct contexts that the PP linen wardrobe carries naturally.

On the water — the spectator boat. Following the racing from a spectator boat or tender — the spray, the wind, the sun exposure. White PP linen shirt open over natural swim shorts, leather deck shoes. The natural water-capable combination for following the racing from the water. A PP linen shirt fully buttoned for the colder spectator days when the sea breeze is significant.

“The regatta wardrobe spans the race course and the shore — two distinct contexts that the PP linen wardrobe carries naturally. The same collection that works on the spectator boat works at the yacht club prize-giving without adjustment.”

— Pieter Petros, founder

At the yacht club. The social heart of the regatta — the Royal Yacht Squadron at Cowes, the Circolo della Vela Sicilia at the Palermo-Montecarlo, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia at the Sydney Hobart start. Yacht clubs maintain dress codes that vary by club but consistently require at minimum a collared shirt and neat trousers or shorts. A PP linen shirt in white or navy with linen trousers and leather loafers carries every yacht club dress code the regatta social programme produces.

The prize-giving evening. The formal social occasion at the end of a regatta — the prize-giving dinner, the awards ceremony, the flag-flying final evening. A navy PP linen shirt with linen trousers and leather shoes. For the most formally observed prize-giving: the PP Spetses Blazer over a white PP linen shirt with natural linen trousers and leather Oxford shoes.

For women at the regatta. A PP ladies linen set in white or oyster for the spectator boat and the waterfront; the Amelia dress shirt in a composed colourway for the yacht club and the prize-giving evening.
