Naxos is the largest of the Cyclades and the most self-sufficient — the island produces its own food (the Naxian potato, the graviera cheese, the kitron liqueur from the citron fruit), has its own distinct architectural character, and maintains an authenticity that the more touristic Mykonos and Santorini have partly lost. The Portara — the marble doorway of an unfinished Temple of Apollo from the sixth century BC — stands on the islet at the harbour entrance as Naxos Town's most iconic image.

For Naxos Town and the Chora. The medieval Venetian Kastro above the town, the Portara at the harbour, the marble-paved lanes of the old quarter. The Naxos difference. Naxos rewards a more casual and more locally rooted wardrobe than Mykonos or Santorini — the island's authentic character means that natural fabric in warm naturals and earth tones reads as appropriately in tune with the setting.
