Hydra is, alongside Spetses, the most distinctive island in the Saronic Gulf — the stone mansions above the horseshoe harbour, the absence of motorised vehicles of any kind (not even bicycles are permitted), and the artist and creative community that has made Hydra a cultural reference point since the 1960s, when Leonard Cohen lived and worked there.
