The Gulf winter runs from October through February. Temperatures in Dubai range from 18 to 28 degrees Celsius. In Riyadh, from 12 to 22. In Doha, similar. These are not winter temperatures by any European definition. They are the temperatures at which most people in the Gulf change their wardrobe — putting away the lightest linens and reaching for something heavier.

The PP position is simpler: the wardrobe does not change. The linen does.

Belgian linen in a heavier weight — the Monte-Carlo Male is cut from a denser weave than the Laos — carries the Gulf winter correctly. The hollow flax fibre that ventilates in summer heat does something different in cooler air: it retains a layer of warmth close to the skin while allowing the body to breathe. This is a material property, not a styling position. The fibre structure responds to the ambient temperature rather than maintaining a fixed thermal state.

The practical consequence: the same shirt worn in August in Dubai — open at the collar, nothing underneath — is the correct shirt in December layered over a fine cotton T-shirt. The collar still holds. The drape is unchanged. The cloth that read as resort-casual in the Gulf summer reads as considered-professional in the Gulf winter because the weight of the fabric is already there.

The Gulf winter also produces a specific problem that the linen wardrobe solves: the air-conditioning in Gulf interiors does not reduce in winter. Offices, hotels, malls, and restaurants remain cold. The outdoor temperature drops enough to make a heavy coat sensible in the morning, unnecessary by afternoon, and redundant by the evening restaurant.
